“You’re the Only Person Today to Thank Me”
Saturday’s Verse:
From Ephesians 5:20 ESV
“Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
The nurse came to the house to administer my chemotherapy treatment on Friday. She was quiet, mostly because she had a long Friday schedule and I was her last visit of the day. When my infusion finished, she watched me as I stumbled to the restroom to vomit. Yes, I stumbled. Admittedly, I didn’t fall; I only bashed myself into the door frame. When I was finished, I came out and thanked the nurse for all she does for people like me. Oh, and I thanked her for waiting around while I stumbled to the restroom.
“You’re the only person today to thank me,” she said.
I explained that one of my favorite Bible verses is from Ephesians 5:20, our verse for today. Giving thanks to God is one thing, I said, but giving thanks to people who show kindness, goodness, and help aligns with this verse. She smiled and wished me a good weekend.
As we enter this weekend with the potential for a major snowstorm tomorrow, let us not forget to be thankful to those we meet and greet today. You can show the goodness of God by saying those two words and shining a Godly light on them.
(Oh, if you are in the northern New Jersey area, you can join us for our Saturday evening church service at 5:00 pm at 225 Center Street, New Milford, NJ. Sunday doesn’t look too conducive for traveling.)
✝️ A Prayer for Today:
Heavenly Father, I thank You for all that You’ve blessed me with throughout my life. May I be thankful for all that comes to me today. Guide me to show this thankfulness in word and deed. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
