Holding Fast to Jesus This Easter

Easter Sunday’s Verse:

From Matthew 28:9 ESV

“And behold, Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came up and took hold of his feet and worshiped him.”

The women came to the tomb prepared to see the body of Jesus. But they found the risen Christ instead.

That’s the way Jesus works sometimes. He greets us in the midst of our fear and bewilderment, and sorrow. The women weren’t looking for an inspirational photo-op. They were bent on visiting Jesus’ tomb with spices for his dead body. But before they could even process what was going on… There he was.

His first word to them is simply, “Greetings.” He doesn’t scold them. He doesn’t critique them. He speaks peace.

This is good news. Jesus meets us where we are before we’ve got it all together. Before we’ve sorted through all our fears. Questions. Doubts. He meets us alive. Here. Talking.

The women cling to his feet and worship him. Grounded. Real. Faith isn’t abstract for them. They’re not clinging to religious ideas or emotions. They’re clinging to the Risen King.

May we be the same. Grounded in faith in Christ himself. Not simply ideas about him. Not just emotions or feelings. When life is shaky, he is not. He has given himself to us in his Word and promise. Let’s hold fast to him.

✝️ A Prayer for Today:

Lord Jesus, you often find me in the graveyard of my life. When I am scared or uncertain, remind me that you are risen and with me. Let me greet you in faith and cling to your word of peace. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
