Intelligence Does Not Equal Wisdom
Tuesday’s Verse:
From Daniel 12:4 ESV
“But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
It’s not hyperbole to say that knowledge is growing exponentially. Today’s artificial intelligence can write essays, interpret data, make predictions, and even create art all by itself. Compared to where we were even just ten years ago, it can be overwhelming—and frankly, quite humbling—to think about.
But remember Daniel’s words: this was promised. Thousands of years before AI and computer algorithms, God promised that knowledge would increase.
The fact that humanity is learning more does not mean we are taking God's place. It doesn’t mean we will “become like gods who know good and evil.” It means that history is moving forward as God prophesied it would.
That being said, knowledge does not equal wisdom. All the information in the world can be analyzed by AI, but only humans are created in God’s image, capable of fearing Him, trusting Him, and loving Him. Only humans need to repent and receive His grace by gifts given to us in Christ alone.
I believe this is where our theology grounds us. No matter how much money we amass. No matter how many skyscrapers we build. No matter how much knowledge we obtain as a species, the work of Jesus is finished, and we are still saved. As the world runs “to and fro” in its quest for the next new thing, we can rest in the Gospel, which will never change.
Let us embrace new technology for the good of all, fearlessly and always with the wisdom that comes from Christ. Let artificial intelligence change how we work and live if it must, but it will never change who we are or who is our hope for the future. Christ will do that.
✝️ A Prayer for Today:
Lord God, You are the author of all truth and wisdom. As our world grows in knowledge, keep us grounded in Your Word. Protect our hearts from pride. Protect our hearts from fear. Let us use every tool and every bit of knowledge for the sake of our neighbors and to Your glory. And keep our eyes fixed on Jesus Christ, our faithful Savior. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
