In Awe of God
Today’s Verse:
Romans 11:33 ESV
Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!
Today is our final day of looking at some of the top verses in the Book of Romans. Our Bible verse is taken from Romans 11:33.
What a glorious verse to ponder on a Friday, especially when we're in need of a pick-me-up! Paul, filled with awe, erupts in praise, overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of God's being. He speaks of the "depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God." Think about that for a moment.
Sometimes, as we navigate the complexities and challenges of our week, we can feel a bit lost, a bit overwhelmed, or even disheartened. We might encounter situations that seem unfair, or our own plans might fall short. In these moments, it's easy to focus on what we don't understand or what feels difficult.
But Romans 11:33 calls us to lift our heads. It reminds us that our God is not small, not limited by our understanding, and certainly not caught off guard by anything we face. His "riches" aren't just material wealth, but the boundless grace, mercy, and love He pours out on us daily. His "wisdom" is perfect, seeing the beginning from the end, orchestrating all things for His glory and our good, even when we can't see the full picture. His "knowledge" is complete, knowing every thought, every need, every fear we carry.
The verse goes on to say, "How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!" This isn't a call to frustration, but to profound trust. It means that God's plans are far beyond our comprehension, His purposes deeper than we can imagine. And that is incredibly good news! It means that even when life throws us curveballs, even when things don't make sense from our limited perspective, God is still at work, and His ways are always perfect.
So, as you step into this Friday, take a moment to breathe in the vastness of God's wisdom and love. Whatever challenges you might be facing, whatever doubts might linger, remember that you serve a God whose depths are unfathomable, whose love is unending, and whose plan for you is always good. Let His infinite wisdom be your comfort, and His unsearchable ways be a source of awe and trust. He's got this, and He's got you.
.Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Gracious and loving God, we come before You this morning with heavy hearts, shaken by the tragic news of violence and hatred in our world, specifically the horrific act of antisemitism that claimed lives in Washington D.C. last night. We pray for the souls of those who were killed, for comfort and strength for their families, and for healing for all who grieve. We confess, Lord, that the presence of such evil can make us feel lost, angry, and afraid. In your mercy, open our hearts to Your Spirit, that we may respond not with despair, but with renewed commitment to your call to love. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
