Allowing Our Faith to Lead Us Through Troubles

Friday’s Verses:

From Job 10:20-22 NIV

“Are not my few days almost over? Turn away from me so I can have a moment’s joy before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and utter darkness, to the land of deepest night, of utter darkness and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.”

I have been studying the Book of Job, and I’ve leaned on several verses. Today’s verses are some of the most raw, poignant, and haunting expressions of human suffering and despair in Holy Scripture.

Job speaks from the edge of despair: he feels as though his days are few after dealing with horrific tragedies, his strength is failing, and the world feels dark and disordered. Yet even in this lament, Job does what faith often does best: he brings his sorrow directly to God instead of turning away.

We know that darkness does not have the final word. In Christ, God has entered our suffering, passed through death, and brought light to those sitting in the shadow of the grave. So when our days feel short and the night feels long, we cling not to our understanding, but to the Lord who made us, keeps us, and redeems us.

And through it all, let us keep our chin up. Allow our faith in Jesus Christ to guide our day. Let us be beacons of God’s light to those around us.

✝️ A Prayer for Today:

Lord Jesus, when I am weary and the days feel dark, hold me fast in Your mercy. Give me peace in my suffering, trust in Your promises, and hope in the light of Your resurrection. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
