We Have God’s Grace

Wednesday’s Verse:

From Ephesians 2:10 ESV

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

There are times when I wish all Christians, regardless of denomination, would agree on the importance of doing good works. While some would claim that doing good works is necessary to attain eternal life, many of us Lutherans believe we do good works because we’ve already been saved. We challenge ourselves daily not to fall into too many sins because we know that our Father in heaven forgives us, repentant sinners, because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

Crafted in the workmanship of God - remember, we are made in His likeness - our Spirit-led hearts move us to be good examples of people who live by faith. Let us be joyful and rejoice in this blessing all day long!

I met a woman once who told me that she was going to hell because three of her four children had found themselves on the wrong side of the law. She told me that she failed to be a good mother, and by that alone, she would be punished eternally in hell. Our reality is that we’re not perfect. None of us can do enough good to earn our salvation. That is why there is God’s grace. He sees us repentant sinners for who we are - weak, fallen, and in need of a Savior- and He’s given us Jesus.

Let us take this Wednesday and remind ourselves of God’s grace. May each of us show this grace throughout our day. We are the workmanship of God.

✝️ A Prayer for Today:

Gracious Father, open my heart this day to proclaim Your goodness and show Your grace through good works. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
