I Do Get My Money’s Worth With Amazon Prime, Right?

Today’s Verses:

Proverbs 21:20 ESV

Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man's dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.

On Monday during my chemotherapy session, I took a moment to reflect on my spending habits. My conclusion was that I was overspending. One of the primary reasons for this was the number of subscriptions I had. In today’s world, it seems like everything requires a subscription, even things that don’t necessarily need one. Living in 2025, it’s become increasingly expensive to maintain a comfortable lifestyle when you’re paying $9.99 per month for a health app, $79 annually for a Peacock TV subscription, and $140 a year for Amazon Prime. These are just a few examples of the subscriptions that add up to a significant amount of money, either monthly or annually.

As I sat undergoing chemotherapy, I decided to take action and reduce my subscriptions. The process of canceling them made me contemplate how God views my spending habits.

The Bible verse we read today addresses this very issue directly: “Precious treasure and oil are in a wise man’s dwelling, but a foolish man devours it.”

This verse is quite profound and serves as a strong reminder of the importance of being responsible financial stewards of what we have been given. Our Lord above wants us to treat the blessings He has bestowed upon us, as well as the money we earn through our hard work, with care and wisdom. He encourages us to save and keep an honest accounting of our finances, rather than wasting them on unnecessary expenses. Ultimately, God wants us to view everything as a gift from Him and treat it accordingly.

I do think that I get my money’s worth with the Amazon Prime subscription…I think.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Gracious Heavenly Father, thank You for the blessings You’ve given me throughout my life. Encourage me through Your Holy Spirit to be good steward of Your gifts and deeply thankful for each of them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
