We Always Get an Answer
Saturday’s Verse:
From Jeremiah 33:3 ESV
“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
Preparing for this past Thursday’s Bible class on the Book of Jeremiah, I ran across this verse by accident. Here, God speaks to the prophet Jeremiah while he is imprisoned and Jerusalem is under threat. In this verse, we are reminded that God’s promises are not tied to the situations we are entangled in. When we pray and call to our Lord, He hears and answers us.
For Lutherans, this verse is a comfort because it centers prayer not on our spiritual strength, but on God’s gracious invitation. The Lord does not wait for us to have perfect words; He bids us to pray, and He promises to answer in His own time and way.
That answer may not always come as we expect, but it always comes through the God who reveals what we cannot know on our own. In Christ, the hidden mercy of God is made known to us sinners, and so we pray with confidence that the Lord who hears also provides.
✝️ A Prayer for Today:
Lord God, when I am anxious, silent, or unsure, teach me to call upon You in faith. Answer me according to Your wisdom, and open my heart to trust Your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
