Hot. Humid. Busy.
Today’s Verse:
Matthew 11:28 ESV
(Jesus said) "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
Yesterday afternoon during chemo, I was sitting there looking at my phone. My Tuesday, as well as yours, is most likely full. And with an Extreme Heat Warning already called for Tuesday, tomorrow looks like a hot struggle.
So, tomorrow morning, you wake up already behind. The to-do list is long, the sun relentless. The heat presses down like a second job, making everything feel heavier — the errands, the decisions, even your body. You move slower. You sweat more. And yet, life doesn’t pause.
Christ doesn’t only meet us in quiet, cool spaces; He enters the heat and chaos right in front of us. He doesn’t demand that we first find rest; He offers it to us. Right in the middle of our hectic schedules, He offers Himself.
You don’t need to earn a break or wait until everything is crossed off your to-do list. You only need to pause, even for a moment, and remember: Jesus carries the weight with you. You are not alone in the heat or the stress. And His grace remains steadfast, unshaken by the sun’s rays.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Lord Jesus, You see my day before it starts. You know the demands, the heat, the pressure. Give me the strength I need, and the peace only You can give. Help me remember that You walk with me, even when everything feels too much. Let Your rest fill my spirit, even on the busiest days. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
