God’s Faithfulness to Us Is Not Small

Today’s Verse:

Luke 12:28 ESV

But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!

Yesterday’s church sermon focused a lot about the importance of understanding our faith and how it drives us to do the good things for ourselves and others. I thought I would expand on my thoughts, focusing on verse 28.

Jesus says these words to anxious, worried people who are consumed by daily needs and cares, like food, clothing, safety, security, and so on. “Look at the birds of the air and the flowers of the field,” he says. This grass is here today and gone tomorrow. But notice how beautiful it is! It’s clothed in splendor that not even the skillful hands of man could create. “If God so clothes the grass of the field,” Jesus says, “how much more will he care for you? You are his beloved child, his redeemed possession, bought back by the blood of his Son.”

Our anxiety often comes when we forget who God is. Faith is not ignoring or pretending our troubles don’t exist. Faith is trusting the One who is in control of them. God’s care is not a maybe. It is a promise.

At the cross of Christ and in his empty tomb, we know that God’s love for us is not only lavish; it’s personal. So when our faith feels weak, we remember: God’s faithfulness is not small. He knows what we need before we even ask. He has already given us the greatest gift of all—His Son. Everything else we need he will give us in his timing and in his way.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Lord, forgive my worried heart and little faith. Help me trust in Your daily provision, and remember that You've already given me all I really need in Christ. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
