Is Time Moving Too Fast?
Saturday’s Verses:
From Job 9:25-26 ESV
“My days are swifter than a runner; they flee away; they see no good. They go by like skiffs of reed, like an eagle swooping on the prey.”
As the days of August begin to blur together, I’m reminded of how swiftly time passes. Job captured this restlessness centuries ago in Job 9:25–26: “My days are swifter than a runner; they flee away; they see no good. They go by like skiffs of reed, like an eagle swooping on the prey.” Yesterday, that feeling hit home while I was on the phone with a friend.
“You know, Ant, we’re already halfway through August?”
“Uh, yeah. Time is flying.”
Some days seem to disappear almost before they begin. The week rushes by, seasons change, loved ones grow older, and we wonder where the time has gone. Job knew this feeling well. In the midst of deep suffering, he described his days as a runner, a swift boat, and an eagle in flight—here, and then gone.
Job’s words remind us that our time is limited and cannot be held still by worry, work, or good intentions. Yet the Gospel gives us comfort: while our days pass quickly, the love of God in Christ does not pass away. Jesus Christ is “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8).
We do not need to race through life trying to secure ourselves. In Baptism, God has claimed us as His own. In forgiveness, He restores us day by day. In His Word and Supper, He meets us in the present moment with eternal mercy.
So when time seems to be moving too fast, pause and remember: every day belongs to the Lord. Our days may fly, but we are held securely in the hands of the Savior.

Lord Jesus, when the days seem to rush past me, quiet my heart and turn my eyes to You. Teach me to receive each day as Your gift, to trust Your unchanging grace, and to live in the hope of eternal life. Amen.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
