Jesus Words Bring Life to the Dead
Tuesday’s Verse:
From John 5:25 ESV
(Jesus said) “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.”
Jesus promises something remarkable about His Word: it gives life to the dead. He’s not just talking about the great resurrection at the end of time—he means that, too. But He means what happens now when we hear and believe the Gospel.
Sinful people are spiritually dead. Dead to saving ourselves. Dead to making it to God on our own. Dead to producing the faith necessary for salvation. But Christ doesn’t wait for dead people to pop back to life on their own. He calls them back. His Word brings faith by which sins are forgiven, and life is given.
Grace alone. The life we have does not depend on the fervency of our prayer lives, the greatness of our good works, or the constancy of our emotions. Our life is by the word of God—the Son of God who bore our sins in His body on the tree. His voice gives life.
If sin overpowers you and your faith grows weak, run back to Jesus’ Word. Listen to His forgiveness once again. His voice still speaks life.

Lord Jesus Christ, You have spoken Your saving Word to me and called me from death into life. Keep me in faith through Your Gospel, forgive my sins, and strengthen me in the sure hope of the resurrection. Amen.
