Living a Life of Justice, Mercy, and Humility

Friday’s Verse:

From Micah 6:8 ESV

He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

If you’re into memorizing Bible verses, I hope you put Micah 6:8 on your list. Yesterday afternoon as I scrolled through X, I came across a post that said that every morning when he sat behind his desk, Charlie Kirk looked at this Bible verses. So if you into memorizing Bible verses, definitely add this one to your list.

As we look out on the landscape of our world right now, we see that it is an unjust, cruel and proud place to live. Our newspapers, the headlines, the constant breaking news on our phone screens, all tell us that the world is not right. Lives lost too soon, voices silenced, families broken. In those moments, we long for something solid to hold on to. Micah 6: 8 is one of those Bible verses. Short, sharp, and quietly subversive.

God spoke it to a nation that had lost their way. They thought God was calling them to big gestures and showy offerings, expensive religious displays. But through the prophet, God says: No. I’ve already told you what I want. Do justice. Love mercy. Walk humbly.

It’s not a list of things to do. It’s a way of life. A way of living when we let grace grow legs and walk out into the world.

Justice is about not looking away. About speaking up, and protecting the vulnerable, and never letting evil have the last word.

Mercy is about forgiving the unforgivable, and loving the unlovable, and making space for the broken.

Humility is about remembering we are not God. Following, trusting, leaning not on our own understanding.

Charlie had his daily reminder of what really mattered. Not ambition, not platform. But faith lived out in service, compassion and humility.

And that’s a legacy worth holding on to.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Loving Father, when the world around us is dark, remind us of Your light. When we are tempted to rage, teach us to do justice. When we are tired of giving, help us love mercy. When pride creeps into our lives, lead us to walk humbly with You. Let our lives reflect the good You have already shown us through Your beloved Son, our Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
