Safe in God’s Promise
Tuesday’s Verse:
From Genesis 6:8 ESV
But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
The story of Noah isn’t really about a man who built a boat. This is a story about a God who hates sin but loves His people.
Violence and wickedness filled the earth in Noah’s day. When the flood came, it showed us that sin is serious business. It damages our relationship with God, with others, and even with His good creation. Sin cannot be overcome by our own efforts.
But notice Noah did find favor with God. And Noah’s story reminds us that when God saves, it’s by grace. He provides the means. He gives the instructions. He brings us safely through the storm and afterward sets his covenant promise in the sky for us to see.
Christians see this ark and understand it points us to Jesus Christ. Peter explains that the floodwaters picture our Baptism—not something we can earn or do for ourselves, but God’s work of salvation accomplished for us through Christ’s resurrection. In Baptism, God declares we are joined to Jesus. He washes away our sin and gives us the promise of belonging to Him. The waters that once flooded the world as a judgment on sin now remind us of the covenant God has secured for us in Christ. Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, judgment has come, and mercy has been given.
So when storms of life surround us—storms of sin, fear, grief or uncertainty—we do not have to rely on our own strength to weather the tempest. We know that God’s promise stands. The Lord is mindful of His people, and He will bring us through safely into the new creation He has promised for us.
Though sin grieves God, He does not give up on the world He created. He remembers Noah.
God blesses Noah and his family and establishes His covenant.

Heavenly Father, You are holy and just, but You are also rich in mercy. Thank You for saving us not by works we could earn but by Your grace through Jesus Christ, in whose name I pray. Amen.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
