It’s Not Just a Room

Tuesday’s Verses:

From John 14:1-3 ESV

(Jesus said) “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God'; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

Jesus spoke these words on the night before He would be killed. He knew what was going to happen – Gethsemane, the cross, the tomb – and yet His heart is troubled for His disciples’ peace. Oh, that tells us something about the kind of Lord we serve. He sees our fears before we even utter them. He knows the burdens we bear.

When we’re hit with sickness or when life becomes so fragile, it’s true, our hearts are going to be troubled. We’ll pray. We’ll wait. We won’t always understand or receive the answers we hope for. But that’s not what Jesus promises us. He’s not going to promise us understanding. But He does promise to be with us. Here and now. Forevermore.

“I go to prepare a place for you,” He says – not like some divine contractor who has a construction site at the end of time, but as a Savior who leads the way through death and who has come back for us. He’s already been there. And He’s not going to send out an invitation for us to the heavenly house; He is coming for us. That’s the kind of Shepherd He is.

And that place He’s going to prepare for us? It’s not just a room. It’s home. No more pain. No more cancer. No more fear of what’s around the corner. No more unknowns. Just Christ. Just the joy of being with Him.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Lord Jesus, when our hearts are heavy and our bodies weak, remind us that You have gone ahead of us—not to leave us behind, but to bring us home. Give peace to those who are suffering, and hope to those who wait beside them. Let Your promise carry us when we don’t have the strength to walk. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
