When the Bills Rise
Thursday’s Verse:
From 1 Peter 5:7 ESV
“Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you.”
Food. Prices on your car insurance. Medical insurance. The price you pay for your house or apartment. These things can cause people to feel stressed and anxious about their future. I think it's only normal to feel stressed about these things. Especially when they keep going up.
As Christians, we should not believe that our daily bread isn't important. "Give us this day our daily bread". Our daily bread consists of many things. Food to put on our tables, a roof over our heads, medical care, jobs, stability, family, etc. Anything that helps sustain our bodies and lives. In Luther's Small Catechism, he says that God will provide for us through fruitful jobs, good rulers, good neighbors, and by our taking care of each other.
So when prices increase, we can know that God has not forsaken us. We can continue to ask him for help with our anxieties. Ask him to lead us and help us out. We shouldn't be ashamed to ask for help from others either. As we know, we are the body of Christ, so we should help our fellow brothers and sisters as well.
Let's not allow fear to take control of our lives today. Instead, ask God to give us our daily bread and be daily bread to others.
✝️ A Prayer for Today
Gracious God, You know the pressures that weigh on my home and heart and those of others. Provide what we need for this day: food, shelter, health, work, and peace. Give us wisdom with our resources, courage in our worries, and generous hearts toward neighbors who are struggling. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
