The Witness of Creation

Tuesday’s Verse:

From Romans 1:20 ESV

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

The world is talking. Are we listening? Trees reach for the sun. Stars shine light-years from Earth. Oceans don’t overflow their banks. This created order, with all its complexity, its beauty, its reliability, didn’t just happen. It’s not random. It points beyond itself. Paul says it “discloses” God’s invisible attributes, His power and His divinity. In other words, creation is not mute. It bears witness.

God’s fingerprints are all over the place. The wind, the waves, the cry of a newborn baby all proclaim that God is. Has there ever been a single person who could stand before God and say, “I never saw any evidence that You exist?” No. Paul says, they are without excuse.

But yet, they still turn away. They suppress the truth. This is part of the fall: Sin blinds us, darkens our minds, so we worship the created, not the Creator. We watch the sunrise and praise “nature,” when we should be worshipping the One who designed it.

This is why general revelation, the witness of creation, is not enough to save us. It points to God, but only the Gospel of Jesus Christ shows us God’s mercy. The cross is where God’s power and divine nature intersect grace and forgiveness. The world testifies that God exists. The cross reveals what kind of God He is, a God who justifies sinners through faith.

So as you go about your day today, let the world open your eyes to its Maker. But don’t let the conversation stop there. Let the witness of creation lead you back to Christ, where the invisible God makes Himself known—not only in His glory, but in His grace.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself in the world You created. But even more, thank You for revealing Your mercy through Jesus Christ. Open my eyes to see Your hand in creation, and open my heart to trust in Your Word, which is the means of our salvation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
