Christ is Enough
Sunday’s Verse:
From John 14:6 ESV
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
His words are simple and straight to the point. Jesus doesn’t give us a roadmap. He doesn’t outline a series of steps to follow. He points to Himself.
It can feel constricting to live in a world that offers so many paths. So many opinions. So many voices vying for what is true. But for Lutherans, this is not a contradiction in our understanding of God. It is liberation in how God reveals Himself to us in a way we can believe.
We don’t scale a mountain to reach God. We don’t earn the right to understand what is true. Jesus comes to us. He is the way, because He has already gone before us, bearing our sin on the cross and rising from the dead. He is the truth, because He shows us the heart of the Father. He is the life, because in Him we have been given eternal life.
Martin Luther was fond of saying that our confidence should not be in what we do but in what Christ did. This verse is a reminder that our salvation is not something we have to work on. It’s a gift we receive.
So when we begin to feel anxious. When we wonder if we have what it takes. We can come back to these words. Not as a set of demands we must meet. But as a promise we can cling to: Christ is enough.
✝️ A Prayer for Today:
Lord Jesus, You are the way when I am lost. You are the truth when I am confused. You are the life when I feel empty. Help me to trust in you and you alone. Help me to rest in what you have done for me. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
