Seek Him and You Will Find Him
Thursday’s Verse:
From Jeremiah 29:13 ESV
“You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
Over the past several months, I’ve collected “biblical memes” from X (the former Twitter). My collection is rather large right now, so I thought I would share. Over the coming days, I’ll present these memes.
God spoke these words to His people when they were in exile. They were far away from home, scattered and broken, living out the reality of their rebellion. And yet, even there — especially there — God gave them a promise: You will find Me.
This verse isn’t about trying harder to find God. It’s about His faithfulness to be found. We don’t have to initiate the relationship; He does. He’s not playing hide and seek. He’s there, even in the exile, in the silence, in the regret, in the waiting.
Lutherans cling tightly to grace alone. So when God says, “You will find Me,” it’s not a reward for good behavior or sincere feelings. It’s the fruit of a promise He makes — and keeps. He makes Himself findable. Through Word and Sacrament, He comes to us. Christ crucified is how we find the Father. Not by climbing a ladder of effort, but by being brought low to the foot of the cross.
To “seek Him with all your heart” doesn’t mean we never struggle or doubt. It means we come honestly. It means we stop running. It means we look where He has promised to be — in His Word, in Baptism, in the Lord’s Supper.
If you’re tired, wandering, or unsure, this promise is for you: Seek Him — and you will find Him. Not because you’re good at seeking, but because He is faithful to show up.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, You have promised to be found by those who seek You. Turn our hearts from distraction and despair. Lead us back to the cross, where You meet us with mercy. Thank You for being near. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
