A Light To My Feet
Wednesday’s Verse:
From Joshua 1:8 ESV
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”
God had just commissioned Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land. It was a huge job. It meant entering a land full of unfamiliar challenges, dangers, and pressures. So what did the Lord give him as the secret to success? Not a battle plan. Not a leadership seminar. Just this: Stay in the Word.
Speak it, meditate on it day and night, and do it. Why? Because God’s Word not only informs us; it forms us. It gives us the strength, the courage, and the direction we need. Not just for Joshua back then, but for us today.
Luther understood this. He knew that the Word is not just ink on a page. The Word is the living voice of God. When we cling to the Scriptures, we are clinging to Christ Himself. He is the Word made flesh (John 1), and through His Word, He forgives us, strengthens us, and guides us.
The promise of Joshua 1:8 is not a guarantee of success in the world’s terms. It’s a call to walk closely with God, trusting that His Word is enough, especially when life is uncertain. Prosperity, in God’s terms, means being rooted in Him, fruitful in faith, and confident in Christ.
Prayers
A Prayer for Today:
Lord, Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Teach me to trust it, speak it, and live by it. Amen.
Apostles’ Creed:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Luther’s Morning Prayer:
I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
