You Are Worthy!

Tuesday’s Verse:

From Romans 5:8 ESV

“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

This Tuesday, we look at Romans 5:8, taken from a Biblical meme on X.

We live in a world where we think love is something we have to earn. If you are a good husband, if you work hard, if you do the right thing, then love will be deserved. But God is more gracious than that. The grace of God turns this on its head.

Romans 5:8 is not about us being worthy. It’s about the goodness of God. He didn’t wait until we cleaned up our lives. Christ didn’t die for the you that tried hard and tried to get it right. He died for the sinner. The rebel. The addict. The self-righteous. The skeptic. He died for you.

Verse 8 smashes any “Scroogeology” teaching that we have to “earn” God’s favor. It reminds us that our salvation is a rescue, not a reward. In Lutheran terms, this is the Gospel. Grace alone. We have no good works, only sin that makes God’s grace necessary.

And God does not regret His love for you. The cross was not the back up plan. It was the plan from eternity past. Jesus gave of Himself, not because you were lovable—but because He is love.

So when the bad times come. When you think you are too far gone. God didn’t wait until you were worthy. He loved you, even when you were at your worst. That is how deep His grace runs.

Prayers

A Prayer for Today:

Lord, I admit that I often attempt to earn Your love or validate my value. Teach me to rest in the truth that You loved me while I was yet a sinner. Thank You for the cross. Thank You for grace. Teach me to trust in Christ alone. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
