7 Prayers Jesus Loves to Answer: Today, Teach Me

Monday’s Verse:

From Psalm 86:11 ESV

“Teach me your way, O Lord,
 that I may walk in your truth;
unite my heart to fear your name.’

Every Christian has been there. We pray, “Lord, I don’t know what to do.” Life brings us seasons when we come up against our limitations. We have no more wisdom. We bump into brick walls. We are confronted with our impatience, our pride, our utter perplexity, and we know we need help that is not of ourselves.

And that, dear friends, is a prayer Jesus never tires of answering.

Teach me.

This is not the cry of someone who is trying to prove something to God. It is the cry of someone who knows they are his. A child going to a Father who loves to mold and make straight with the loving patience that never runs dry.

Jesus does not answer that prayer with silence.

He teaches us in His Word, which never returns void. He teaches us on the cross, where we see what love looks like in a man who goes to the very end, even when rejected and betrayed. He teaches us in the Spirit, who renews our scattered hearts and makes us a people of trust. And he teaches us in the everyday grind, where trials and joys and little choices slowly train us to depend on him.

Luther called the Christian life oratio, meditatio, tentatio prayer, meditation, and trial. All three are directed to God as our Teacher. We learn by not depending on our strength, but by confessing our need.

So let me encourage you, that the next time you encounter an uncertain moment, the next time you face a difficult decision, the next time you experience conflict or failure, you can pray with confidence:

Teach me, Lord. Teach me to see your will. Teach me to trust your promises. Teach me to walk in your truth.

Jesus will not be silent to such a prayer. He is the Teacher, and he shapes those who ask.

✝️ A Prayer for Today:

Lord Jesus, I do not have the wisdom that I need. Teach me your way. Open your Word to my heart. Shape my thoughts. Guide my steps. Keep my eyes on you. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
