“Forgive Me” - One of the 7 Prayers Jesus Loves to Answer

Tuesday’s Verse:

From 1 John 1:19 ESV

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

There are few words harder to say than: “Forgive me.” Our old Adam resists admitting guilt, shifting blame, or making excuses. But Jesus invites us — even urges us — to come with honesty and repentance.

Jesus delights in answering this prayer. Why? Because forgiveness is the very mission for which He came. At the cross, He took your guilt and shame — not just the sins you regret, but even the ones you barely noticed — and buried them in His own death.

Satan wants you to believe forgiveness is uncertain. But Christ wants you to know it is finished. When you say “Forgive me,” Jesus doesn’t debate or delay. He applies what He has already won for you — His perfect, complete, blood-bought pardon.

To pray “Forgive me” is not begging for mercy from a reluctant Lord. It is simply receiving what Jesus loves to give.

Confession is never about proving the sincerity of our sorrow, but about trusting the certainty of Christ’s promise. He forgives because of His grace, not our worthiness. Every absolution spoken in worship is not a mere wish — it is Christ Himself declaring: “You are forgiven.”

This is why Christians live with bold repentance. We confess freely, because Christ forgives fully.

✝️ A Prayer for Today:

Lord Jesus, I do not have the wisdom that I need. Teach me your way. Open your Word to my heart. Shape my thoughts. Guide my steps. Keep my eyes on you. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Luther’s Morning Prayer:

I thank You, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger; and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You. For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things. Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me. Amen.
